Values should drive the sales work

Instead of being busy chasing the deals to fill our sales quota for the month or quarter, we (anyone involved in personal selling) should focus on working in a way that is derived from our values. This may sound like very soft selling, which it can be, but the idea behind this is to pursue sustainability and accountability in sales and selling.

It is important for us all to be aware of our personal values, because these should form the guiding principles for our actions. Hopefully, one of the core values that we people have is honesty. By working in a way that is derived from honesty, when selling something to a potential buyer or an existing customer, we automatically consider the buyer’s or customer’s situation and what is best for them. Understanding and considering our customer’s situation is an important aspect when pursuing sustainability and accountability in sales and selling. By working in a manner that is in line with our values, we not only focus on doing the right things during the day, but we also sleep better in the night.
